Diving

Diving is one of my big hobbies.  I have been diving for more than 10 years now and have more than 650 dives.

I took my first diving certificate in Københavns Teknikums Dykkerklub KTD which later changed name to Københavns Sportsdykkerklub and reside on the first floor of an old backyard building in the north-west part of Copenhagen.   I lived in a 2nd floor flat in another part of Copenhagen at that point so diving was for me a lot about carrying tanks up and down stairs all the time.

Later I moved to Allerød north of Copenhagen where I joined Allerød Sportsdykkerklub ORCA but I only had a few dives with them and a year later I moved to Nykøbing Falster in the southern part of Denmark where I joined Frømandsklubben Baltic.

With Frømandsklubben Baltic I had a lot of great dives and trips to Sweden, Norway and Germany.  We were a good team of divers with a passion for wreck-diving and with a location only 20 minutes drive from the shores of the Baltic Sea - with all its German World War II warship wrecks - it was where I have had most of my dives.

In 2008 I moved to Malmö in Sweden and joined Malmö Sportsdykarklubb with whom I have had a lot of good dives though I did not find the amount of time for diving that I had before.  But I look forward to come back one day and continue where I ended...!

Early 2012 I moved to Hong Kong.  I have not had any dives here yet and do not believe that it will ever happen.  But with only a few hours flight time to a lot of good diving spots I am sure that new and interesting dives will be added to my logbook.

Around 2007 I became interested in Technical Diving and joined my first Trimix course (GUE Tech I).  It opened up a totally new world which I liked and after then I became fully committed to Technical diving and the DIR principles.  I have today approximately 75 Trimix dives of which some are down to 75 meters.

My plan for the summer of 2012 was to dive the 200 meter long German World War II wrech "Blücher" which resides on 100 meters depth in the fjord of Oslo.

The germans plan was to let Blücher go into the fjord of Oslo to put pressure on Norway during the occupation in April 1940.  With her eight 20.3 guns she would be able to hit any point in Oslo within a distance of up to 20 kilometers.

What the germans apperently did not know was that the Norwegians had built in underwater torpedo pipes into the rocks of the fjord and with a couple of torpedo hits in addition to the heavy fire from the Norwegian coastal gun batteries it was soon over for Blücher.  125 seamen and 195 soldiers died in the sinking.

With my move to Hong Kong the plan for diving Blücher has been rescheduled to some undefined time in the future.

In my Gallery you will find a lot of pictures from good dives and diving trips.
